Chateau Cantenac Brown

Le château Cantenac Brown est un troisième cru classé en appellation Margaux.  Le millésime 2009 est arrivé à une belle maturité mais peut encore se garder quelques années.

Voici les notes et avis de quelques experts internationaux :  

Vinous - Neal Martin 93/100 - Served blind at the Southwold 2009 tasting. One of the standout and perhaps most surprising showings was the performance of Cantenac-Brown '09. It has a more lifted, oaky bouquet with dark cherries, cassis and violets. It displays good precision with admirable purity. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet sappy entry. It is very primal compared to its peers, but it shows very good balance, whilst the finish is precise and silky smooth. This has more to give and so patience is required. Tasted January 2013.

James Suckling 93/100 : Wonderful aromas of crushed raspberries, flowers, and hints of vanilla bean. Full body, with silky tannins and a juicy finish. Fresh and minerally. Best in 2018.

Wine Spectator - James Molesworth 92/100 : This is perfumy and very pure, with lovely lilac and blackberry aromas followed by plum, cassis and black cherry fruit. The supple finish is caressed with toast that leaves a lingering, perfumy feel. Best from 2013 through 2023. 8,915 cases made.

Robert Parker : 90/100 : Tasted twice in Bordeaux, I must say that whatever was shown to me in cask certainly did not appear to be performing as well from bottle. It could be just that the wine has closed down, but I had thought this was an extraordinary wine and one of the big time sleepers of the vintage. The tannins have taken hold, and although the wine is still outstanding, any hopes of achieving a mid-90 point score, as I had hoped, seem highly questionable. Dense ruby/purple with notes of graphite, blackberries and forest floor, the wine is full-bodied, powerful, excruciatingly tannic and closed, and that may be why it’s not showing as well as I predicted. Certainly, this was the biggest discrepancy between barrel and bottle that I saw in the vintage, but the wine is still outstanding, just not profound. It will be interesting to revisit this wine in a number of years. Forget it for 7-8 years and drink it over the following 30.

Bettane & Desseauve 18/20 : Ici encore une vraie et attendue évolution de style vers plus de finesse et de sophistication dans le boisé, avec un meilleur respect de la matière. L’ensemble dégageait une impression de vin de grande classe, moelleux, complexe, raffiné dans ses sensations tactiles, très long, très margaux.

Le fruit est très savoureux, avec une belle gestion de l'équilibre. Le nez se révèle fin, sur des arômes de mûre, de cassis et une touche de menthe. La bouche est une boule de fruit, avec une densité magnifique et toujours beaucoup de fraîcheur malgré la grande richesse du vin. Jolie finale soyeuse.

René Gabriel 17/20 : Sattes Purpur-Granat. Das Bouquet wirkt einerseits etwas reserviert und kühl, und doch finden sich auch süssliche Noten von leicht überreifem Traubengut. Am Gaumen stoffig, mit guter Fülle, auch hier ein Tanz zwischen floral und fruchtig, zeigt noch ein paar Kanten, kann noch zulegen. 2018–2036

Steven Spurrier 17/20 : Dense purple red, quite meaty, savoury nose with a good lift of freshness and spice, good extraction and good firm tannins, a fleshy, fragrant wine with a good future. Drink 2014-22.

Le domaine a été fondé au XIX ème siècle par John-Lewis Brown (1769-1851) qui fit construire le château sur la commune de Cantenac. C'est la propriété depuis 2006 de la famille Simon Halabi qui a l'ambition de développer encore la réputation du domaine et qui a opté pour des méthodes de culture plus naturelles au service d'un vin exceptionnel.
